  Kelly tiredly got out of her car. It had been a long day, first at work and then she had an intense cardio class at the gym.   “How was the gym?” Susan asked as Kelly came into the kitchen.

  “Exhausting.” Kelly said kissing her partner lightly on the lips before looking at the elaborate meal she was cooking.

  “This is incredible!” Kelly gushed looking at the dinner before her.

  Susan giggled and glanced over at her.

  “Go sit in the dining room. I’ll be out in a second.” She said waving her hands towards the dining area.

  The house was set up so that you walked into the kitchen after the garage and then the kitchen led to the rest of the house. If the house was set up differently Kelly would never have been surprised by the vast amount of candles that were light throughout the many rooms. Kelly gasped as she exited the kitchen and saw a million candles all light and flickering in each and every room.

  “Oh my God!” Kelly said covering her mouth in awe.

  “Do you like it?” Susan asked coming up behind her and wrapping her arms around her.

  “I know how tired you’ve been lately and I thought this would be a nice treat for us.” Susan whispered in her ear.

  “Thank you.” Kelly said squeezing the arms that were wrapped around her.

  “I need this more than you know.” Kelly added turning around to kiss her. Susan responded immediately as she felt her partner’s lips on hers.   Susan giggled, “First we must eat my masterpiece.” She said in a fake French accent. Kelly joined in with the giggles and then went to the already set table that also had two candles on it. Kelly waited patiently for Susan to bring the dishes out as she drank the wine they had brought up from their wine cellar in the basement. She had chosen a particularly good wine that night that made her tenseness slowly subside.

  “How was work today?” Kelly asked as Susan put a bowl of soup in front of her.

  Susan smiled, “Really good. We’re experimenting with new dishes in the restaurant.” Susan said. Susan worked in one of the most prestigious restaurants in town. She loved her job and would frequently cook crazy meals to test on Kelly. Kelly on the other hand worked in a rigorous law firm. She loved it most days, but sometimes, like today it got to be too much.

  “How was the office?” Susan asked next to Kelly.

  Kelly let out a low moan. “Awful.” She mumbled taking a sip of her soup.

  “I’m sorry baby.” Susan said touching her hand lightly.

  “It’s just…hard sometimes.” Kelly said smiling sadly at Susan.

  “I know.” Susan said wrapping her fingers around Kelly’s. Their eyes locked and the warmth and love they both felt for each other radiated from them.

  “I mean, sometimes I want to quit, but I love it so much I don’t think I can.” Kelly said continuing to eat her soup. “This is amazing by the way. I mean everything you make is, but this it just…hits the spot.” Kelly said making a little moaning sound as she ate.

  “I’m glad you like it.” Susan said with a laugh.

  They both continued eating their soup before Susan went to go get their other dishes. Every time Kelly tried to help her Susan would wave her off.

  Kelly would mumble, “Fine.” But that didn’t mean she was going to give up so easily.

  As they ate their main course Susan filled her in about the gossip that was going on in the restaurant. Kelly loved to hear about the people Susan worked with they were all bizarre people that made both of them laugh. All through dinner they held hands both relishing in the ability to be close to the person they loved.

  They drank their wine and ate the delicious food, both enjoying the other’s company. As they ate dessert Kelly suddenly had a devious idea. She gently touched her foot to Susan’s who was in the middle of telling her a story about something that had happened today. Kelly rubbed her bare foot along Susan’s.
